From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot and lone passenger were returning from gulf shores, AL ( jka ) and was landing at a Private air field in Athens, AL. A witness (CFI pilot) stated at time of accident, winds were gusty and coming from the south. Pilot stated he performed normal down wind and turned to final approaching runway 18, pilot stated he believed he was too low and slow, applied full throttle, but was unable to clear power lines at the approach end of the field. Aircraft hit power lines and impacted ground just short of runway. Pilot and passenger were removed from wreckage and transported by life flight to trauma center.
