From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft departed 3NO enroute to stj. After aircraft climbed to 7500 feet MSL, the pilot attempted to lean engine using normal procedures and the engine began running rough. Pilot enriched the mixture and the engine smoothed out so pilot continued the flight. Just north of stj, pilot descended to 1500 AGL to observe some property he owned. When power was added to maintain altitude, the engine began to run rougher than before so he decided to make a precautionary landing in a bean field. The pilot attempted to land and stop the aircraft in a short distance, but excessive braking caused the aircraft to nose over onto its back.

As the FAA filed it
