From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot departed the Brookfield airport (MO8) intending to fly to the chillicothe airport (kcht) and back. Prior to departure the pilot did not check the fuel tanks, but instead made a decision to depart with the fuel level observed on the fuel gauges in the cockpit. On the return leg from kcht back to MO8, the aircraft ran out of fuel and the engine lost power. The pilot landed the aircraft in a field short of the runway and, before coming to a complete stop, collided with a fence.
