From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On August 20th at approximately 7:00 pm the pilot was en-route to a field for aerial application. During the flight, he heard a "bang" in the engine compartment when the engine began to run rough and the aircraft began losing altitude. He elected to land in a harvested wheat field. After landing, the pilot stated he had to get on the brakes hard because the end of the field and fence was approaching. As the aircraft skidded and turned, the left main gear collapsed under the aircraft as it came to rest 20-30 feet from the fence. The pilot sustained no injuries.

The incident occurred approximately 11 miles southwest of Harvey ND, or approximately 3 miles northwest of the lone tree airport (decommissioned).
