From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

This was a local training flight for aircraft familiarization. The PIC in the back seat was providing instruction for the pilot in the front seat. The PIC allowed the pilot flying to enter a high sink rate approaching the flare. The PIC took control of the aircraft to initiate a go around, but the aircraft landed hard on the tailwheel, breaking it off, and causing substantial damage to the main gear struts and airframe structure. The aircraft veered off of the runway toward a concrete ditch. The PIC added power to avoid the ditch and the aircraft settled onto the grass. Normal egress was accomplished with no injuries.
