From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 9/16/2015, cape air flight kap 284, aircraft N1055, enroute from lebanon, new hampshire (leb) to white plains, n.y. (hpn), declared an emergency to air traffic control (ATC) due to the loss of the right hand engine oil pressure. The aircraft diverted to Bradley (bdl) and landed with visible smoke coming out of the right hand engine. The aircraft was able to turn off the runway onto the nearest taxiway. The bdl airport rescue and fire fighters (ARFF) responded, and the two flight crew members with 7 passengers were evacuated on the taxiway. No fire or injuries were reported. The evacuation was conducted through the left hand cabin door entrance and not the emergency exists.

Upon initial inspection by the flight crew, engine oil was found running along the right hand engine cowling and a large hole at the engine block visible from the engine oil servicing access door. Cape air maintenance removed and replaced the right hand engine and propeller assembly. The failed engine will be sent for major overhaul to determine the cause for failure, and the operator will submit a service difficulty report in accordance with air carrier reporting requirements. This investigation has revealed that pilot actions did not contribute to this incident.
