01/04/2016 Pilot privacy data omitted and two other persons were traveling from tcl direct to sus via the chook intersection. The final altitude was to be 14000 feet. Crew took off from Tuscaloosa tracking a course direct to the chook intersection. Pilot set the
Plane up for a climb between 750 to 1000 fpm. Conditions appeared normal and the aircraft was running fine. At approximately 13700 feet MSL, a loud pop, or disturbance, was heard and the cabin became very windy. The passenger in the back informed the pilot that the door had blown out of the plane. Pilot turned off auto pilot, leveled the plane off, insured control of the plane, and began decent to less than 12000 feet. During decent, pilot contacted the controller making them aware of the situation. Pilot slowed the plane to approximately 140 KTS making a turn towards tcl. Pilot requested priority landing at tcl and flew directly to the airport. Pilot maintained altitude until runway in sight, then circled south of the field to bleed off altitude making a landing on runway 4. Once on the ground the pilot contacted the tower and provided a summary of the events leaving the plane at bama air.
