From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The flight was a private pilot practical test for the student. A DPE applicant was in the right seat. An FAA inspector was observing the DPE applicant from the back seat.

They had completed the high work and were returning to Durant regional airport for the landing operations. Durant was landing runway 17 and the wind was reported as 240 at approx. 7 knots. The 1st approach was ?rough? And the student elected to go around. On the second approach the student chopped the power about 10-15 feet off the runway. DPE applicant tried to arrest the landing with power, but the aircraft bounced on the mains and he landed the aircraft with power just after. The aircraft was taxied to the flight school and a hard landing was reported.

As they debriefed the failed practical, maintenance pulled the cowling and discovered the firewall was wrinkled just above the nose landing gear attachment bracket.
