From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

A FAA inspector was adminstering an aircraft competency check to an airman as part of a part 135 air carrier certification. The airman, who was on the controls, was performing a hovering autorotation on a taxiway paralell to the active runway. The airman initiated the maneuver by retarding the throttle to idle. The airman, unknowingly, made a right rear cyclic input which caused the helicopter to descend right skid landing gear low and aft. The aircraft struck the ground and then bounced back up approximately two feet. The FAA inspector took the controls and landed the aircraft safely. A postflight inspection revealed minor ddamage to the aft engine cowling assemble and aft landing gear fairing near the right skid crossbar attaching point.
