From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.
What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
The pilot was out with a friend on a personal flight. They had stopped at other airports prior to landing in Tangier island (ktgi). On his first attempt he struggled during the approach to keep the aircraft on a stabilized approach. There was minimal wind (less than 6 KTS). On touch down he landed flat or possibly nose wheel first. This resulted in porpoising the aircraft. The pilot initiated a go around. On the second attempt at landing he touched down flat again but much firmer and the nose gear detached from the aircraft. The prop struck the runway and the aircraft came to a stop from this landing.
