From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot indicated that he departed selma, California (0Q4) at approximately 1722 hours PST and climbed to 5000 feet MSL, then went to 9500 MSL. He also indicated that he departed 0Q4 with 45 gallons of fuel on board, destination ccb. The pilot had his 86 year old mother on board the aircraft and according to his statements he was in selma on personal business at the interview on 16FEB17. Weather at take-off was clear & VMC reporting 18C & clear with 10 miles visibility (national weather service).

A/c transitioned to socal through delano & bakersfield with termination point at the airplane's homebase at cable field (ccb). While following the 210 freeway into cable field he indicated the engine stopped running and he elected to continue gliding the aircraft to Brackett Field in Pomona (poc) because that is where he had trained as a student the glide terminated in the parking lot of the Pomona raceway just below the bleachers where the glide abruptly terminated in the picnic tables below the grand stands, approximately 500 ft short of the rwy. A/c sustained significant damage during the crash sequence roll out.

Pilot and passenger sustained minor bruises and were treated by an ambulance crew and released at the scene.

The NTSB conducted the engine run in Arizona, no anomalies were identified. This report will be amended if/when additional information becomes available.
