From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

UA5588 was ready for push back from gate B1 when the cockpit contacted the dispatcher/pushback driver and indicated there was ramp congestion and asked if they could push the aircraft back further than normal. The dispatcher/pushback driver indicated yes. The brakes were released and the driver started the push with wing-walkers, and a few seconds later contact was made with the neighboring aircraft, UA599. A large piece of the RH winglet of UA599 was sheared off and the LH winglet of UA5588 in scuffed and buckled; however, pending hidden damage inspections, damage to both aircraft appears to be non-structural.

As the FAA filed it
