From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The accident aircraft had departed fargo (kfar) for pelican rapids, MN at approximately 1803 CDT from runway 31 and climbed to 1800 feet MSL. (900 feet above ground level (AGL)) shortly after reaching 900 AGL, the pilot radioed fargo approach and advised he was landing at Moorhead (jkj). He did not report any issues with the aircraft at this time. The pilot was given clearance to land at jkj and was asked if he needed assistance to which he replied, ?no?. The controller advised frequency change approved and was asked to squawk VFR. There was no reply from the pilot. The controller advised the pilot of radar service terminated, again with no reply. Radar shows the aircraft in a controlled descent on a southerly heading towards jkj. The distance from 900 AGL to impact is approximately 7.5 statute miles. The impact site is .5 miles from the approach end of runway 12 at jkj.

The aircraft was configured for landing and pilot made no distress calls.

Several witnesses had heard the engine running before impact.

The pilot was the sole occupant and was killed.
