From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 9/2/2017 at around 0900 local a pilot and his passenger attempted to take off downhill at his family farms unapproved grass strip. The engine made power and the aircraft broke ground and reached 10 feet in altitude before the pilot noticed the aircraft was slowly gaining altitude and wouldn't clear the trees ahead of him. He pulled power and immediately contacted the ground hard enough to damage both landing gear and breaking the engine lower mounts off. The aircrafts left wing tip struck the ground causing the wing spar to twist. The aircraft came to a rest after skidding. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries.
