What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On September 2, 2017, at approximately 1040 central daylight time (CDT), an ayres Thrush S2R-T34 series aircraft, owned and operated by a local 14 CFR part 137 agricultural operator, was involved in an aircraft incident while conducing aerial application operations in the vicinity of the Burlington, Kansas, or approximately 15 miles southwest of the Burlington-coffey county airport (ukl). Pursuant to the airman?s verbal and written statement, upon the completion of the aerial application event, the airman reported a sudden engine vibration, and a recognizable decrease in propeller RPM; the engine?s torque was reported to be indicating the maximum value. The airman also reported that concurrent with the loss of propeller RPM, and noticeable vibration, the engine?s, ?chip detector,? Light was illuminated. While enroute to the ukl airport, the airman reported that the aircraft?s engine was experiencing a continued decline in propeller RPM; the engine power lever was constantly reduced to maintain the engine?s torque below the maximum redline value. At approximately 7 miles, southwest of ukl, the airman elected to conduct an off-airport precautionary landing on a north/south road. The aircraft landed without incident; aircraft damage was not sustained nor was the airman injured as a result of the precautionary landing. At this juncture, a specific, and contributory aircraft, and/or engine anomaly has not been identified; the 14 CFR part 137 agricultural operator has removed the aircraft?s engine for further inspection. FAA form 8020-23, FAA accident/incident report will be amended upon receipt of substantive information that facilitates this office?s obligatory completion of the nine areas of responsibility.
