From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On Thursday, November 16, 2017 at approximately 1755 PST, a Piper PA-28R single engine airplane, on an IFR pleasure flight from north las vegas, Nevada to laverne, California, under CFR part 91, sustained substantial damage after experiencing an engine failure and conducting an emergency landing adjacent to U.S. Interstate I-15 near Yucca Grove, California.

The pilot and sole passenger were uninjured. There were no injuries or damage to persons or property on the ground.

The pilot initially reported having difficulty maintaining altitude due to a rough running engine and a high cylinder temperature. The condition quickly deteriorated to the point that the pilot had to make an emergency landing several miles from any airport. The aircraft appears to have been damaged from unimproved terrain adjacent to the freeway.
