From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot was performing a check ride with designated pilot examiner at Lockhart airport Lockhart, Texas. Pilot entered Lockhart airspace on approach to runway 18. After an uneventful landing, pilot configured aircraft for another takeoff. Aircraft took off and remained in the pattern for another landing. Aircraft entered a left crosswind at 1200 MSL and proceeded to enter left downwind. Just prior to base leg pilot started before landing checklist. Pilot put his right hand on landing gear handle and announced "gear" and moved handle to what he thought to believe was the down position. Pilot noticed he did not see the gear position lights illuminate. Pilot proceeded to continue with the rest of the checklist and called out the remaining items on the checklist. Pilot nor DPE double checked the gear position lights. Just prior to touchdown, landing gear warning horn sounded aircraft landed without gear extended. Pilot realized the gear handle was not fully in the down position but in fact had been placed in the detent position.
