From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

N97MV a Piper pa 46-350P was IFR inbound to 18AZ, ATC controller advised no weather available and issued a PIREP for icing in the area. Controller issued descent clearance to lowest available altitude. N97MV canceled IFR and was proceeding VFR to 18AZ; approximated 5 miles from 18AZ N97MV with the aircraft deicing equipment on, the PIC tried to lower the landing gear and experienced an in-flight electrical failure.

PIC of N97MV performed the emergency procedures checklist for electrical failures. The electrical system was not restored. A caution in this emergency procedure is that ?without electrical power, the landing gear must be lowered with the emergency extension procedure. The gear position lights and the flaps will be inoperative.? The final step in the emergency procedure is land as soon as practical. PIC performed the emergency landing gear extension per the aircraft checklist.

PIC initiated approach and landing at 18AZ an un-towered airport not knowing if gear the gear position due to the continued electrical malfunction. At touch down the PIC noted that the gear was up and worked to maintain the aircraft heading down the center of the runway.

Aircraft electrical systems are being addressed to ensure landing gear extension with the aircraft deicing equipment on does not create an electrical overload that heats the circuits and prevents reset.

As the FAA filed it
