From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot statement:

On March 11, 2018 around 2:00 I went flying my Stinson 108-2; n 9457K. L was staying in the pattern to practice three point landings due to recently reading numerous articles about how three point landings are safer due to lower airspeed and more control. I was on my fourth landing on runway 09, and had notifed tower this would be a full stop and taxi to the fuel pump.

The approach felt normal and the airplane touched down in three point confguration. Then the front wheels seemed to balloon slightly so I applied more back pressure. At that time, the airplane veered to the left at about a 45 degree angle. The pilot applied right brake and full right rudder but it still kept going. Then the right wingtip hit the runway and the airplane nosed straight over.

At this point, the pilot released his seatbelts, unlocked the door and crawled out of the plane and stayed away about 100 yards until the crash crews arrived on the scene to assist. The accident happened around 2:25 pm.
