From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 04/10/2018 at approximately 1710 hours, aircraft N622 mp, a Robinson R-22 helicopter, departed sacramento executive airport (ksac) enroute to Franklin airfield CA (F72). The training flight was conducted under the provisions of 14 CFR 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed.

The training flight was conducted for a commercially rated helicopter pilot seeking a CFI helicopter rating. While conducting a touch-down autorotation maneuver the student pilot applied excessive aft cyclic after touchdown which caused the main rotor blade to contact the tailboom of the aircraft. The blade strike resulted in substantial damage to the main rotor blades and the tailboom of the aircraft.

The investigating inspectors found the CFI and pilot to be forthcoming, cooperative, and to have a constructive and compliant attitude. A search of FAA databases did not reveal any previous violations, accidents or incident history.

Both airmen where counseled iaw compliance philosophy on the importance of proper flight control techniques during autorotation.

As the FAA filed it
