What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

While piloting his Cessna 310 he departed pxe at 7:50 pm on April 29, 2018, with his wife privacy data omitted. After flying on a VFR flight with radar service toward fort lauderdale executive, he decided to deviate to gainesville executive airport (gnv) at around 9:30 pm in order to land. After establishing a final for runway 11 and speaking with tower, he struck a pine tree in mid-air. Pilot remembers seeing that he was on glide path; however, seconds passed while performing his landing checklist after looking up again to turn on landing lights he noticed trees directly in front. Pilot immediately reacted by pitching up and adding full power ? Then the plane hit the top of the tree and the plane yawed hard to the left. After escaping the trees, pilot turned back about 30 degrees to the right and made an emergency landing on 11. He then taxied the plane to university air center FBO where the plane is parked.
