From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 1930 hours on Sunday, June 24, 2018 an aircraft N3703M, PA-12, S/N/12-2648 was observed by general public flying erratically. Eventually, the aircraft landed on a restricted beach at the us coast guard training center, Cape May, new jersey. First responders arrived at the scene and observed the pilot acting erratiaclly. The pilot fled the scene and could not be located/found. USCG and security forces arrived shortly thereafter, and noticed a strong smell of alcohol and identified an empty container of beer in the cabin. The aircraft was secured overnight. Subsequent interview with a banner tow pilot, from the airport at which this airman departed, stated that he saw pilot drinking and had a beer in his hands before he took off.

Investigation is ongoing and amendment to this report will be forthcoming.
