From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

While manuevering for a straight in landing to Ontario runway 33 the student pilot pushed in the mixture and then the carburetor heat controls. The engine quit running and the pilot decided to land in a wheat field adjacent to the runway approch. The aircraft rolled approximently 90 feet and then struck an irrigation ditch, berm and access road, flipping over, coming to rest inverted and pointing in the opposite direction of travel. The pilot noticed flames from around the engine cowl and egressed the aircraft.
