From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omitted Were flying N5269S as an instructional flight on August 1, 2018. They were performing a landing at kfnl when the engine started running rough. They decided to make a full stop landing but privacy data omitted (the instructor) continued to troubleshoot the problem. He became distracted and did not perform the entire pre-landing checklist, failing to lower the landing gear. The precautionary horn did not go off due to the fact that the throttle had not been retarded enough to hit the horn switch. When the throttle was retarded during the flare, the horn sounded but it was too late. The aircraft impacted the runway.

This investigation is being closed with informal action, counseling.
