From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On September 5, 2018, at approximately 2145 PDT, a rockwell Commander 114TC, single engine airplane impacted desert terrain approximately 1 mile north of the Jean airport near interstate I-15, at Jean, Nevada. The aircraft appeared to have impacted the ground at a high angle as the wreckage was confined to a small area. Initial identification of the aircraft was hampered due to the extent of the impact damage and post impact fire. The aircraft was later identified by a Utah state tax id sticker found on the vertical stabilizer.

On September 6, 2018, the clark county office of the coroner, las vegas, NV, confirmed the identity of the pilot.
