From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 09/08/2018 privacy data omitted (student pilot) was performing pattern practice and touch and gos at the Pearland Regional Airport. He had completed five touch and gos with 20 degrees flaps then he decided to try a short field landing with 40 degrees flaps. The airplane seemed to land a little fast, however the touch down did not seem that hard. On roll out he became distracted adjusting the flaps and carburetor heat to prepare for the take-off and when he looked up airplane was veering to the right of the runway, pilot tried to correct applying rudder and aileron but by then he was in the grass area. The airplane ended up at the bottom of the ditch where the nose landing gear broke off, prop struck the ground, lower nose cowling was damaged, minor skin damage to upper and lower leading edge of right wing tip. No post crash fire and no injury to pilot. At this time it is consider an incident until further evaluation when cowlings get removed and landing gear area is inspected. Report may be amended upon outcome of inspection results.
