From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On October 12, 2018, at approximately 1045 central daylight time, N729TG, a Cirrus SR22 airplane impacted a parking lot following a loss of engine power shortly after departing the Midland Airpark (mdd), Midland, Texas. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries, and the airplane was substantially damaged. The aircraft was being operated under the provisions of title 14 code of federal regulations part 91 as a cross-country flight. Day instrument meteorological conditions prevailed for the flight.

The pilot reported shortly after departure at approximately 500 feet above ground level, the engine "surged". He turned back toward the airport; however, the engine lost power and pilot was unable to restore engine power. The pilot recognized the airplane would not make it back to the airport, so he deployed the Cirrus airframe parachute system (caps). The airplane descended under the parachute into a parking lot and impacted a parked automobile.

THE AIRPLANE DESCENDED UNDER THE PARACHUTE INTO A PARKING LOT AND IMPACTED A PARKED AUTOMOBILE.
