From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Accident occurred at small airstrip on montague island, approx. 50 NM east of Seward, AK.

Aircraft had engine problems on landing on previous flight when arriving at montague island. Significant water was discovered in left fuel tank upon inspection.

Pilot drained water from tank and thought he had cleaned all of it from fuel system.

Airman ran engine approximately 5 minutes prior to takeoff with no problems.

Just after rotation on takeoff, aircraft lost power and settled into trees at end of runway. Aircraft caught fire and was destroyed. Both occupants escaped aircraft without incident, but injured hands breaking side windows to get out.
