What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
On December 7, 2018, a jet collided with another parked aircraft during ground taxi at john wayne-orange county airport. The two aircraft were N237GA, a Gulfstream G550, and N758QS, a Bombardier BD-100.
As N237GA was taxiing in to a spot on the aci jets parking ramp at sna airport, a ground guide was giving instruction with wands. The instruction was for N237GA to taxi into a designated spot while performing a turn of approximately 45 degrees to the pilot?s blind side. As N237GA was essentially doing a right pivot on the parking spot, the left wing was moving towards N758QS which was stationary. The ground guide misjudged the distance between the wings of each jet and he did not notify the pilot to stop movement. The left winglet of N237GA struck the right winglet of N758QS. N237GA had paint transfer from the impact but no structural damage. N758QS showed received minor damage to the winglet.
The total cost of the repair was $15,000 because the operator elected to replace the entire winglet.
Aci jets was contacted about the training for personnel who park and wing-walk aircraft. The manager at aci jets gave a report on what was done after the incident. Aci jets completed a safety stand-down and gave training to all personnel handling aircraft. They established a 3 foot ?bubble? Around aircraft that should not be penetrated at any time. If the bubble is penetrated, they now consider that an internal safety incident which must be reported.
