From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

2020-01-21-N13PF, single occupant. PIC woke up at 0500L and got on a 0700L comair flight to bend Oregon to pick up his plane from a 3 month maintenance evolution. After being out of N13PF cockpit for almost 4 months, the PIC performed a 45 minute warmup flight with a maintenance test pilot, performing a couple full stop day time landings. Approximately 3 hours after this flight and 17 hours after waking up, the PIC made the decision to fly 4.5 hours back to Minnesota and land at 0200L a minimum of 21 hours after his wakeup. The kmic, Crystal Airport metars were VFR. There was a kmsp tempo line 1 hour after planned arrival for -fzrasn br BKN030. Kmic had a NOTAM for rcr 3/3/3 taken at 1530L day prior to mishap. Kmic tower was closed. N13PF attempted to land on rwy 14, 6 kt right crosswind gusts up to 10KT, 75 ft wide runway. The PIC stated he flew an AOA approach with the intent of a smooth landing. PIC reported airplane started swerving left, so he executed a go around. On the second attempt PIC reported his intent was to land firmer, still flying an AOA approach. On touchdown the airplane started swerving left, PIC made the decision to just hold it as straight as possible and let it roll out, to prevent the concern of furthering the left motion by adding power. The airplane departed the paved surface 1800 ft down the runway drove through the snow for 350 ft. the nose gear collapsed 200 ft into the snow and the prop was striking the ground the last 150 ft until the plane came to rest and was shutdown. The airplane was in idle power traversing the snow. It came to rest 30 ft left of the RWY14 pavement boundary. At 0930L, with an OAT just above freezing, the FAA discovered there was still residual ice on the leading edge of the wings. This aircraft has no ice protection. The nose gear was collapsed which led to prop strikes. Damaged was categorized as minor.

As the FAA filed it
