From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

PIC statement of events:

It was a function check flight after taking ownership of the aircraft.

I started with an engine runup and high speed taxi to check instruments and power settings.

Then a normal takeoff leaving the gear down in the pattern and returned for a normal landing.

Upon touching down, the nose gear slowly retracted and the nose made contact with the runway causing a prop strike and minor damage to the cowling.

The entire flight was operated with the gear down and 3 gear lights indicating gear down.

It appears the uplock on the nose gear was broken and allowed the nose gear to retract on landing.
