From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

2020-06-16 Piper malibu N27RZ landed on rwy 30 at Ely, MN municipal airport kelo.

The aircraft tracks on the rwy show prop strikes, 6 of them, followed by a compressed nose wheel tire, then main gear contact and an additional 3 prop strikes. At that point the engine stopped turning, the nose gear collapsed, and the aircraft began sliding down the runway on extended main mounts and a collapsed nose gear.

The aircraft landed flaps up, approximately 1900 ft down rwy 30, and then slid on the nose for 900 additional ft. winds were a direct left crosswind 210@12G17. There is a hill and tree line directly left/south of the runway with an approximate combined height of 125 ft. temperature was 27C/ dew point 14, putting density altitude over 2X field elevation.

The aircraft initially landed just right of centerline. During it's 900 ft nose contact slide it stayed on the pavement drifting left to the left side of the rwy.

Damage to the aircraft included dislodged engine mounts, cracked engine case, nose strut that broke free of the frame and punched into the firewall, damaged props and nose cowling.
