From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Investigation: on the third approach and landing (touch and go), the touchdown was normal. The pilot applied forward pressure on the stick to put more weight on the wheels and decrease lift. As the tail was coming down, the tail began to veer left. The pilot applied right rudder and ailerons but not sufficient to stop the ground loop. The aircraft departed the prepared surface and the wingtip touched the grass off the runway. The pilot continued to taxi back to parking uneventfully.

Root cause: lack of experience in make and model and skills to overcome the effect of the gusty winds.

Corrective action: acquire more tailwheel training and experience through dual instruction and continued education.

Comments: I used counseling and recommended additional training to regain safe operations. I am satisfied the airman's corrective actions fully address the causes and have reestablished safe operations. I recommend no further action.
