From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot departed pajn at 2:18 pm for flight for pleasure. After flying for about 30 minutes pilot intended to land on a beach on admiralty island. After

An overflight for inspection of the surface and wind conditions, pilot made an approach to the beach with the water on the left and forest on the right. The wind was calm. Estimated touchdown speed at 40 mph. Touchdown and initial rollout were uneventful. After approximately 150-200 feet of deceleration the plane made a sudden unintended turn to the right. Estimated speed at that point to be 15 mph. At this point the left wing tipped downward impacting the sand and the wingtip became lodged in the sand. There was no prop strike. The pilot shut off the engine and exited the plane to find that the left main gear shock had bent to an angle of 90 degrees and the main gear had folded underneath the belly of the plane. He believed that gear collapse happened prior to the wingtip striking the ground.

Note: pilot received tailwheel endorsement on March 04, 2020.
