From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot stated he was on approach to his grass strip runway when he felt the aircraft "sink", he entered a field of soybeans and flipped over approximately 75 yards from the runway. He did not indicate he had any mechanical issues with the aircraft and attributed it to the wind. Discussion with pilot immediately after the event found he felt that a gust of wind had contributed to his failure to reach the runway. Ohio trooper statement indicated he had no injuries and pictures indicated minimal damage, only the engine cowling was bent up, wings and tail were intact due to the slow speed as the aircraft went into the soy bean field. Inspection by an IA mechanic found no damage to the firewall, this event classified as an incident by NTSB privacy data omitted.
