From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Pilot statement: on downwind leg engine stalled. Pilot switched to right tank, turned on boost pump and engine restarted. Pilot put the gear lever down, engaged 1/4 flaps and prepared to touch down. Pilot then experienced scraping and prop striking ground. Then the altitude horn went off and audible gear warning sounded after aircraft had slid over a 100 feet on the ground.

Inspection of aircraft on runway found the aircraft was on its belly with landing gear extended approximately 6 inches. Damage to aircraft was to propeller strike and minor damage to fuselage. Landing gear circuit breaker tripped. Aircraft towed to hangar.

Inspection of aircraft at maintenance facility found left fuel drain valve unusable and only dribbled when sumped. Drained left fuel cell and found about 1 gallon of water in in left fuel cell. Drained right fuel cell and found about 1 cup of water. Fuel cap seals found to be deteriorated and the source of the water intrusion.

Gear retraction and extension found to operate normal. Emergency extension system functional check normal. Gear lights and mechanical indications operated normal.

Landing gear warning system, both audio and voice found to be inoperative and will require repair.
