From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 10/21/2020, at 1117 PDT, N7405H, pa 28-180, emergency landing on hwy 60 due to loss of engine power. Aircraft sustained substantial damage to the right wing from hitting a fence. The sole pilot on board was not injured. The pilot reported the following: the mission was a cross country flight from marana regional kavq to Show Low airport ksow for a touch and go and then return to marana regional. Weather was VFR conditions under a clear sky. A flight plan was filed through leidos and activated via text message at 0938L.departure and flight to ksow were uneventful. The pilot accomplished one touch and go at ksow and was approximately 20-25 NM south southwest of ksow cruising/climbing around 8000-8500MSL at 105KIAS, all of a sudden, he heard a loud bang, accompanied by moderate to severe lateral vibrations, and the RPM dropped to 1700. He applied full mixture, confirmed full throttle, confirmed carb heat in, turned on the fuel pump, switched back to the previous fuel tank (just in case), and checked the right and left magnetos. Nothing improved the engine performance, and the descent continued. Just before touchdown, the right wing struck a barbed wire fence on the right side of the road and suffered damage.
