From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On November 05, 2020 at 1915 (1115 PST time), helicopter N505AJ was in bound from the southwest run-up area at Chino Airport during a customer training event. The helicopter made a 180 degree turn to runway three for an auto rotation practice and made a hard landing, west of the runway three run up area causing possible damage to the landing gear system. At approximately 1155 local time the riverside FAA (FSDO) received a call from the NTSB in regards to the landing of N505AJ and at 1206 engaged in a conference call including both pilots and the Chino Airport operations person on duty at the time, privacy data omittedand the FAA inspector. The training pilot privacy data omitted stated that a power recovery landing was intended, however power was not brought in fast enough during the approach creating a full auto rotation and the hard landing. The pilot in training privacy data omitted was at the controls during the approach, but privacy data omitted also took the controls to help with the touch down. After landing, it was determined at that the aircraft should be shut down and inspected before further flight. The Chino tower and airport operations were then notified of their intensions. . N505AJ is based out of john wayne airport (sna) and flew to Chino (cno) with the plan to return to sna after the training flight. On November 06, 2020 at 9AM local time a riverside FAA inspector examined the aircraft and took pictures for the NTSB showing little apparent damage other than a mildly bent gear strut on the right rear structure. The NTSB determined that it was better to have a Bell factory specialist examine the aircraft before a final analysis was made. This would be accomplished in the coming weeks. On December 22, 2020 after several communications since the incident, the FAA received an email from privacy data omitted of the NTSB stating that the helicopter had (minor damage, with a no accident classification is my final determination based on the facts, conditions and circumstances associated with N505AJ). This investigation is considered closed and labeled as an incident.

As the FAA filed it

AT APPROXIMATELY 1155 LOCAL TIME THE RIVERSIDE FAA (FSDO) RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE NTSB IN REGARDS TO THE LANDING OF N505AJ AND AT 1206 ENGAGED IN A CONFERENCE CALL INCLUDING BOTH PILOTS AND THE CHINO AIRPORT OPERATIONS PERSON ON DUTY AT THE TIME, ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^AND THE FAA INSPECTOR. THE TRAINING PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT A POWER RECOVERY LANDING WAS INTENDED, HOWEVER POWER WAS NOT BROUGHT IN FAST ENOUGH DURING THE APPROACH CREATING A FULL AUTO ROTATION AND THE HARD LANDING. THE PILOT IN TRAINING ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS AT THE CONTROLS DURING THE APPROACH, BUT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ALSO TOOK THE CONTROLS TO HELP WITH THE TOUCH DOWN. ON DECEMBER 22, 2020 AFTER SEVERAL COMMUNICATIONS SINCE THE INCIDENT, THE FAA RECEIVED AN EMAIL FROM ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ OF THE NTSB STATING THAT THE HELICOPTER HAD (MINOR DAMAGE, WITH A NO ACCIDENT CLASSIFICATION IS MY FINAL DETERMINATION BASED ON THE FACTS, CONDITIONS AND CIRCUMSTANCES ASSOCIATED WITH N505AJ). THIS INVESTIGATION IS CONSIDERED CLOSED AND LABELED AS AN INCIDENT.
