From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

2021-04-03 N733LS had a birdstrike on the right wing tip

N733LS took from Flying Cloud Airport (kfcm) about 45 minutes after sunset for a night VFR training flight, with a student pilot and CFI on board. Leveling off at approximately 1200 ft AGL and 3 miles from kfcm a thud was hear and the student pilot at the controls stated he may have seen a bird flash in the landing light. The CFI took controls, called tower and requested the long rwy, 10R for a full stop.

No control issues were felt, the CFI performed an uneventful full stop landing, he shut down and performed an inspection. The inspection revealed a bird strike on the leading edge, outboard 6 inches of the right wing. The damage was to the skin not the spar and the plastic wingtip fairing was broken with bird remains inside of it.

The damage was noted as minor. The aircraft owner was notified that maintenance action must take place prior to follow on flight.
