From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

During an instructional flight the student pilot conducted a wheel landing. When the student applied the heel brakes during the rollout, the airplane veered left. The instructor took the controls and applied right rudder and right heel brake. The instructor was unable to stop the left turn with the right rudder and brake input, stating it seemed as if the left brake was fully applied. The instructor then applied engine power in an attempt to increase rudder authority, attempting to prevent the airplane from cartwheeling. The airplane departed the runway to the left and hit a berm. The left main gear then collapsed causing the left wing and propeller to strike the ground. The left wing sustained substantial damage.

As the FAA filed it
