From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

At approximately 18:15 PDT (0115Z), a student pilot was on a local training flight with his flight instructor. After a non-eventful flight to the practice area, N5852G entered the traffic pattern at kccb airport for a full stop landing. Abeam the runway numbers, the instructor reduced the throttle to idle, applied carburetor heat, and began to turn base when the engine failed. The instructor immediately pitched the airspeed to best glide and turned towards the runway. The aircraft landed in a field just prior to the runway, hit a sign and transitioned in to the street. No injuries occurred and the damage was classified as minor.
