From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Mooney M20J, N4474H, a four seat single engine naturally aspirated aircraft, with four occupants on board departed downwind on runway 09 at D63 airport, Dinsmore, CA.

After departure the aircraft made contact with a tree located 1,450' se from the end of runway 09. Contact with a tree subsequently caused a large portion of the RH wing to depart the aircraft. The aircraft then rolled inverted and impacted the ground 200' s from the point of contact with the first tree. During impact with the ground the inverted LH wing was separated from the aircraft by another tree and spun the inverted fuselage into another tree where it came to a stop.

Post-impact fire consumed the fuselage.

All four occupants were fatally injured.

On-site and post-recovery examinations of the aircraft found all primary flight control surfaces were present and the time of the accident. Continuity of the controls rods to the control surfaces was established.

As the FAA filed it
