From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On April 2, 2022, at approximately 1700 local time, a Cessna 170, serial #18166, depart taylorsville airport (NC2) with two people onboard.

The pilots landed at local strip, NC58 with no issues. After departing NC58, the pilots decided to land at another local grass strip, known as miller`s.

The aircraft made two approaches into miller`s without touching down. On the third attempt the aircraft`s profile was very slow with full flaps. The aircraft touched down, bounced and became airborne again, but was unable to obtain sufficient speed and altitude. The aircraft continued in a northern direction before striking the top branches of a large pecan tree causing it to lose more altitude and then enter a tree line where it struck several other trees before falling to the ground.

The aircraft came to rest facing an easterly direction and an approximate 20 degree nose down attitude. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.

Both pilots sustained serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals.
