From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

Aircraft had departed Troutdale and as the plane climbed through about 400 feet, the engine lost power. The airman decided to turn back to the airport and landed in a field adjacent to the runway and came to rest in a ditch. The lower cowling was damaged but that appeared to be the extent of the damage.

Fuel sampled from both wings showed a significant amount of water (about 50% fuel and 50% water from the sample size of approximately 8 oz) in the right wing. The left wing sample showed no significant amount of water in sample.
