What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
Approximately 12 minutes after takeoff from sussex county NJ airport aircraft N6915R a Cessna 210-T crash landed with landing gear retracted, on county rt 42 and caught fire beyond repair. Pilot was able to exit the aircraft suffering no injuries.
Upon investigation, it is believed that the engine suffered catastrophic damage. Photos were taken of large hole in forward left upper crankcase where #6 cylinder connectiong rod exited. Through hole, it could be seen that both the crankshaft and camshaft were completely broken in two. Inspection of logbooks did not reveal improper maintenance. Pilot stated that he lowered both flaps and landing gear on approach to landing but the aircraft landed gear up. This could be possible due to loss of engine power driving engine driven hydraulic pump.
