From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

privacy data omittedPilot picked up aircraft at a repair facility at montgomery airport (myf) after the completion of of an annual inspection. Pilot wanted to do some pattern work to ensure the aircraft was performing properly but ATC only allowed him to do one takeoff and one landing. Pilot with no passengers on board did perform one take off and one landing no discrepancies where found the aircraft operated properly. Pilot made decision to fly home with one passenger on board. Take off from montgomery field was normal and aircraft climbed to 6,500 feet. Getting close to the coast pilot reported the engine making good power and all instruments appeared normal. Heading north over the coast line the engine made a noise and appeared to stutter over the course of a few seconds. Pilot made a mayday call stating they had lost the engine. Pilot decided to land at palomar airport (crq) because it was closer than oceanside. Checking engine instruments again it appeared the engine had RPM and manifold pressure and was still running with limited power. Pilot reported to ATC that he had partial engine power. Despite throttle, prop, and mixture being full forward the aircraft was still losing altitude. Unable to maintain altitude and decending through the clouds the aircraft was flying just above houses and hilltops. At this time the pilot could see a road with cars on at the intersection. Delaying lowering the gear and flaps the pilot landed on the road. Trying to avoid cars as the red light turned how ever the aircrafts left wing made contact with a suv and the right wing cliped a light pole. Two people in a car where slightly injured.
