From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 26 October 2022,privacy data omitted a PA-22-150 departed Kenai airport(paen) on a part 141 instruction flight with 1 instructor pilot and 1 student pilot aboard, no cargo.

The pilot stated "take off was uneventful with no apparent issues or indication of engine issues. Shortly after a right turn out all engine power was lost and the propeller began to windmill. Immediately once this happened emergency procedures began. We switched fuel tanks, verified mixture was rich, verified magnetos were on both, applied carb heat, cycled the primer, pitched for best glide, and made two radio calls to tower letting them know of our situation. Tower had cleared me back to airport but it was too FAR. I decided the best place to land was a quiet road away from town."

Pilot chose to try landing on straight part of beaver loop road, Kenai AK.

Airplane performed an emergency landing on the road but went off and impacted a snowdrift causing damage to bungee cord, minor wing tip damage to left wing, nose cone and cowling, and prop tip.

Pilot and student exited aircraft with no significant injuries.
