From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On 02/05/2023, aircraft being operated as a private flight departed from posey field airport (1M4), haleyville, Alabama and flew direct to Gladewater Municipal Airport (07F), Gladewater, Texas. The pilot stated to the dps trooper at the scene he had missed the initial approach to the airport's runway 32. He stated to the dps trooper at the scene that he applied full power to attempt a go around for another approach and when he applied full power, the engine sputtered and failed. The pilot made an emergency off airport landing into a pond that was located approximately half of a mile from the approach end of runway 32 at 07F. The airplane was found inaccessible due to it being partially submerged in approximately 4 to 5 feet of water in the middle of the pond. The airplane was occupied by the pilot in command and three passengers. On 03/01/2023, the aircraft was recovered from the pond and transported to storage at lancaster, Texas. During recovery the aircraft engine came free from the body. On 04/20/2023, contact was made with the business where the aircraft wreckage was being stored concerning the aircraft's status and any possible inspection of the wreckage. Personnel with the storage company stated that due to the length of time that the aircraft remained submerged in the pond and it being unprotected at the salvage yard, it might be difficult for a good inspection to be done to determine any mechanical failures. This office will follow up with the NTSB for further inspection of the aircraft for any possible mechanical issues. No further information concerning mechanical issues has been given to this office.

As the FAA filed it
