From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

The pilot was operating an unairworthy, unregistered rotorway executive amateur built rotorcraft in the backyard of his residence. The pilot is only airplane single engine land rated and does not hold a rotorcraft catagory rating. The unrated pilot was repetatively lifting the rotorcraft off the ground "a few inches" and then touching back down. He did this for about 15 minutes. On the last attempt, during liftoff the pilot lost control and the rotorcraft rolled left onto its side. The pilot stated he attempted to use right cyclic input to conteract the roll but it had no effect. As the aircraft continued to roll left he reduced throttle and lowered the collective. The helicopter rolled onto its left side resulting in substantial damage.

As the FAA filed it
