From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

On June 19, 2023, at approximately 07:54 CDT, the pilot in command (PIC) of a Mooney M20C operated a flight from whiteside county airport (ksqi) to the eastern Iowa airport (kcid), landing at approximately 08:56 CDT, where the owner was to join the PIC for the remaining flights. The PIC and privacy data omitted then departed on an instructional flight from kcid at approximately 09:43 CDT and arrived at the Chicago executive airport (kpwk) at approximately 11:13 CDT where a passenger joined the PIC and privacy data omitted. The three people aboard the aircraft then departed kpwk at approximately 11:59 CDT. The aircraft was then operated on another instructional flight to Chicago midway international airport (kmdw) where a touch and go maneuver was performed at approximately 12:59 CDT.

After departing kmdw’s airspace to the west, the aircraft was operated to the Dupage Airport (kdpa) where a full stop landing was to be performed. The aircraft entered a right base leg for runway 02R at kdpa. At approximately 12:40 CDT, the aircraft touched down on runway 02R where the landing subsequently collapsed.

The PIC and privacy data omitted both stated that the landing was “firm,” but not out of the ordinary.

The aircraft experience minor damage.

No injuries to the three people aboard.
